DescriptionThe Garioch Fiddlers' ( pronounced Geary ), based in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, will visit Biggar in October 2010 to play a charity concert organised and presented as a Pre Biggar Little Festival event. The orchestra is mainly fiddle based but also includes accordions, flutes and mandolin with piano and double- bass backing. This combination produces a rich and powerful sound. The Fiddlers are currently regarded as one of the best amateur Orchestras in the country and this concert will give the public an opportunity to hear the best of NE fiddle music played in their own unique style. The orchestra has been described as producing; " a tight, well rehearsed, refreshing sound full of drive, with a great lift and spirit to their playing - they play as one". They will present an evening of Scottish Traditional Music and song featuring a 30 piece Fiddle Orchestra and solo acts from within the group. Over the years they have recorded seven CDs - the latest released at their 25th Anniversary Rally in April 2008. Every second year they take their music on the road to play a concert for the benefit of a local charity and they have already visited Orkney (twice), Hexham, Harrogate, oban, Melrose, Strathpeffer and Dumfries.
