SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL AT PERSILANDS ON SUNDAY 30TH MAY - Despite miserable weather and rain the ten acts got under way with gusto as the Biggar Big band took to the stage and performed a fantastic 60minutes of swing music and song for us.

The Macmillan Cancer Charity's barbecues got fired up and we began to enjoy the delights of their beef and veggie burgers, accompanied by hearty bread rolls or salad. Gordon Young got his bar set up and sold us the odd glass of wine which helped to put a smile on our faces and we gradually forgot all about the miserable weather. Next on stage was the Biggar Ukulele Ensemble who got the audience singing along with their rendition of a host of popular songs  (thanks to Alistair Fyfe for his fantastic photo of the Ensemble).

We were then entertained throughout the afternoon with a fantastic variety of music and song, ranging from the delights of classical flutes through to foot stomping bluegrass blues from the Darlin Clementines, finishing up at around 6.30pm (when the sun finally came out) with some good old Scottish Ceilidh music and dance.

So despite the weather, we had a pretty good day and thanks must go out to all the acts who performed free of charge  and the people who helped put the day together. Fingers crossed for better weather in 2011.

SPONSORS AND PATRONS

Biggar Little Festival is a registered charity. In 2009 we received funding from the Leader Programme and South Lanarkshire council. However an essential aspect of funding the festival is the support we receive from the local business community and Patrons. The Committee has developed a package to try and ensure that there are mutual benefits to be had from becoming a sponsor and we hope that as visitor numbers continue to grow, the additional publicity will attract more businesses to become involved. We are very grateful to all our Sponsors and Patrons for their continuing support. If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor or Patron please contact Gil Dunn on 01899 223126 or at gil@persilands.com .

VOLUNTEERS - WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN 2010?

The Festival Committee is always on the lookout for volunteers. The main committee ( themselves all volunteers) works through a series of sub-committees dealing with different aspects of the festival - including publicity, arts, Biggar Day Out and funding. Over the summer we need people to help with distributing fliers and programmes, and from September onwards volunteers are needed for the Box Office, publicity, setting up exhibitions, "ambassadors" for Biggar Day Out, and general help with making things happen. So if you have a particular interest or expertise or just loads of enthusiasm we would love to hear from you. Please contact Lesley on 01899 220980.

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend out thanks to Techno Data Solutions for the creation of the website and their continued support of the festival. Kind thanks also to Ken Foulis at "The Biggar Gallery" for providing the photos of The Corn Exchange and Biggar High Street for use on the BLF website. The photos are subject to copyright.

This year we also have a selection of merchandise for sale including teddy bears, mugs, coasters, tea towels and Biggar Little Festival T-shirts. Please visit our online shop for details.
