The McCalmans - Coming to BLF 2010

The McCalmans Probably one of Scotland`s best loved and most successful folk bands, the McCalmans have been thrilling audience world wide since 1964. Their performance is based on searing three part harmony, humour and a respect for the tradition of song in Scotland. They have recorded 400 songs in 26 albums, starred in countless television series and world tours in every direction.  They've headed the bill at London’s Albert Hall and the smallest of folk clubs, sung in deserts, jungles, arctic wastes and remote islands.   With only 5 members in total since 1964 there have been very few changes to the band line up, with the present trio playing together since 2001. However, it's official, founder member of the band Ian McCalman has decided, at the end of 2010, to retire gracefully, leaving Stephen Quigg and Nick Keir to continue, and build on their very successful solo careers.  It is therefore a great privilege for Clydesdale Folk Club to host what will be one of the bands last performances as part of Biggar Little Festival 2010.  Book early to avoid disappointment!! Tickets will be available on line or through the box office later this year. Some sample reviews of the band……  'Simply the best.....robust yet sensitive renditions of ballads and chorus-songs traditional and modern, sparsely accompanied but richly embellished with three-part harmonies'Scotland on Sunday 'Distinctive simplicity and integrity'Taplas (Wales) 'Superb three-part harmonies, rattling sing-a-long songs sees their presence as strong as it has been in over thirty years'Celtic World 'Their lengthy pedigree is as good as a guarantee and their latest release bears this out. McCalman magic'The Scots Magazine 'Scots Abroad is just under one hour of great entertainment, serious without preaching, humorous but never sloppy. A well-balanced and performed programme, just what you’d expect from The Macs'Living Tradition www.clydesdalefolkclub.net
